I have now entered my third month of solo travel and the response from all of you has been overwhelming to say the least! I’ve gotten so many words of encouragement, but what has caught me off guard the most is how many have shared admiration for having the courage to travel alone, for so long! The truth is my decision to leave was made quickly and on a gut feeling. I knew in my heart and soul that I needed to do this and decided that I was going to for once in my life forget about all the reasons I shouldn’t do it and just take the plunge! Call it faith, temporary insanity, a mid-life crisis… I just knew that I needed to do this, so I went for it! The most frequent question y’all have asked is, have I travelled alone before? I mean, kind of, yes. A few days here and there for work mostly and I had just spent 6 days in Palermo alone, but no, I had never done something like this before. It was only when I started getting your messages a couple of weeks in, that the realization of HOW BIG A DEAL this was hit me like a brick on the head and a very public WTF AM I DOING freak out moment ensued!! (the full story on that will come in a later post!) Despite the tears, fears and freak out moments experienced so far - yes there have been a few - I can also say that it has been so beneficial and rewarding, hands down the best way to enter my 40s.
So, if the thought of traveling solo stresses you out, before ruling it out here are my TOP FIVE reasons why you should consider traveling solo.
